More than one way to be part of 'Tale' project

By now you're probably several chapters into Jennifer Donnelly's A
Northern Light, the novel selected for this year's 'A Tale For Three
Counties' community reading project.
And you may be wondering what's next.
There are several ways that you can participate in the project organized
by libraries in Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties.
'Tale' encourages area residents to pick up and read the same book,
talk about the book, and then hear the author speak about the book and
her career.
A Northern Light is set in the Adirondacks in the early 19th century.
The historical novel centers on Mattie Gokey, a 16-year-old facing some
tough decisions. She must choose between staying close to home and marrying
a farmer's son, or taking a scholarship to Barnard College to pursue
her passion for words and writing. The latter is something practically
unheard of in her tiny village, especially for a woman.
Curious? Here's how you can participate:
Simply read the book, which is available for loan and purchase at libraries
and bookstores in the three counties. Then, you may wish to attend a
book discussion , 18 are scheduled at more than a dozen libraries through
March 16. The first discussion is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Corfu
Free Library, 7 Maple Ave., Corfu.
Readers are also encouraged to share their opinions about A Northern
Light in a book review contest sponsored by The Daily News. Up to six
winners will be selected to have lunch with Donnelly on March 24.
To enter the review contest, send a short (150 words or less) review
and the official entry form (required) , found on page B-3 of today's
newspaper , to The Daily News, ATTN: Lifestyles Editor, 2 Apollo Drive,
Batavia, NY 14020. The deadline for contest entries is Feb. 24.
Donnelly will present talks and booksignings in each county in March.
Her schedule: 1 p.m. March 23 at Genesee Community College, 1 College
Rd., Batavia; and 7 p.m. March 23 at Richmond Memorial Library, 19 Ross
St., Batavia; 7 p.m. March 24 at Lee-Whedon Memorial Library, 620 West
Ave., Medina; and 2 p.m. March 25 at Perry Elementary/Middle School,
50 Olin Ave., Perry, a program presented by the Wyoming County libraries.

Also, if your book club or other group is reading A Northern Light we'd
love to hear from you for a possible future story. Drop us a note that
tells us about your book club: What do you call your club, where are
you reading, where do you meet, what does your group usually read, what
you like best about your group, and, of course, why you decided to pick
up A Northern Light. Be sure to include a contact name and number and
where and when your group meets. Send this information to The Daily
